Springtime Car Care in Florida

Springtime Vehicle Maintenance

The first day of spring was last week, but what does that mean to car owners in Brevard County, Florida? The short answer is that it probably does not mean as much to us as it does to people who live in more extreme climates. Our winter is like their spring, and our spring is like their summer. However, the change of seasons is always a good reminder to attend to routine maintenance.

Unless you do a lot of traveling to the North, Central Floridians do not have to worry about snow chains and such, but we do have to pay attention to antifreeze. Since antifreeze works in both directions, protecting your engine from freezing and from overheating, Floridians rely upon it just as much as our northern neighbors. Of course we are much more likely to face overheating especially now that spring is here. While you are checking your coolant level, it is a good idea to check other fluids like engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid and windshield washer fluid.

The rainy season is coming, so it is wise for Central Floridians to check or replace your windshield wipers before you are caught in a thunderstorm. Spring and summer usually offer more opportunities for road trips, so this is a good time to check tire pressure and wheel alignment. It is important to maintain your brakes in safe working order for short commutes as well as lengthier trips, and the change of seasons is a good reminder that it may be time for a checkup.

Although the change of seasons in Florida does not mean great fluctuations in temperature, even moderate temperature changes can put extra pressure on belts and hoses, so this is a good time to check or replace them. Batteries, plugs and wires could use similar attention to avoid unpleasant surprises on the highway.

At Cassels Garage in West Melbourne, we are ready to help keep your cars in good working condition. We are a family-owned shop well equipped to provide routine maintenance or do major repairs on your car. We have been serving Brevard County since 1966.
