What to do if your car breaks down

As we near the end of the summer season and slowly transition into the fall/school season, you may be putting quite a few miles on your car. The busy school year is here and this time of year usually includes many trips to and from school, grocery stores, and or after school activities. So, what happens when you are on your way and suddenly your car breaks down or you blow a tire? What do you do then? You may think you know what you will do in these circumstances but it never hurts to be prepared with a plan, just in case of emergency. Cassels Garage is here to offer the people of Brevard County, FL and beyond some advice on what to do when they are in a situation and are in need of assistance. Read on for more information.

Stay Calm

The first and most important thing to do when there has been some sort of vehicle issue is to make sure everyone in the vehicle is okay. Even if you just blew a tire, check to make sure everyone is safe and secure. Staying calm in situations like these can make the whole process go by much smoother. If you are calm and collected the rest of the passengers will generally follow suit. We understand that you may have been in a hurry and will now be late. These things happen. Everything is going to be okay.

Carefully Assess the Issue

When exiting your vehicle be very careful and aware of any oncoming traffic. Triple check your rear view mirrors before opening your door and make sure to turn on your hazard lights so people know to watch out. Once you are out safely, assess what the issue is. If it’s a flat tire and you feel confident enough to change it, go for it. If it is something to do with the engine and you have no idea what to do, or if you have no idea how to change a tire, call for help.

Call for help

If you know that you need assistance, call for help. All depending on what state your car is in, you can call your road side assistance, a towing company, an automotive garage, or for an emergency, 911. Every situation is different, so it is important to assess your needs and call whoever meets those needs best.

These may seem like no brainer tips but it is important to know how to handle a situation like this, should one ever come up. You should also know to come to Cassels Garage for all of your automotive repairs and services. We are here to get your vehicle taken care of and back safely on the road.
